New PSP Smaller, Lighter And Faster

Three years after the PlayStation Portable (PSP) was launched and garnered the attention of holiday-makers and travellers Australia-wide, the popular PSP is being re-launched in time for Christmas, 33 per cent smaller and lighter than its predecessor and with upgraded software that allows faster response times for more dynamic gaming.

Launching today, Sony hopes the PSP Slim and Lite (RRP $279.95) will cash in on the Christmas gifting rush that generally runs from late September to December and then the sales season in January.

The new PSP is 33 per cent smaller than its predecessor.

The new Slim and Lite offers a video-out port allowing users to view their games, UMD (Universal Media Disc) movies, digital photographs and home movies stored on an attached Memory Stick Duo on a larger attached screen.

The unit weighs only 189g and is 18.6mm thick even though it sports a large-for-its-size 4.3-inch widescreen, high resolution LCD. The new Slim and light includes the ability to temporarily store game data from UMD, reducing load time during game play and the option to charge the unit through PlayStation 3 consoles or PCs via USB cables during data transfer.

The first generation PSP has shipped 25 million units worldwide since its launch in December 2004 and 100 million units of UMD software titles. More software titles will be available now that the new Slim and Lite PSP has launched.
