Canon has announced four new cameras in its PowerShot compact digital camera range that boast a range of new features.
The four cameras, the A3100 IS, A3000 IS, A495 and A490, feature Canon’s Intelligent Auto technology, which was previously only available in the PowerShot range’s higher-end models. Intelligent Auto recognises up to 18 different scenes (13 for the A490), including moving people, landscapes, sunsets and brightly-backlit scenes.
The cameras are also the first in the PowerShot range to include Canon’s new Intelligent Flash Exposure, which will automatically detect whether flash is required and adjust the flash, shutter speed, aperture and ISO accordingly.
All four cameras also feature a new Low Light scene mode, allowing for better quality low-light images, and two new scene modes: Poster Effect, which alters colour gradation so the image resembles and old poster, and Super Vivid, which boosts colour saturation.
PowerShot A3100 IS and A3000 IS
The new PowerShot A3100 IS and A3000 IS feature Canon’s TruCapture technology that makes it easy for users to get the shot they want. This is achieved by combining three Canon technologies: Optical Image Stabilizer for clear, sharp shots; a DiG!C Colour Processor for true-to-life colours; and Intelligent Auto that makes taking photos easy.
A first for the Canon PowerShot A-series range, both the A3100 IS and A3000 IS feature lithium-ion batteries, allowing longer shooting time and the convenience of rechargeable batteries. The introduction of these batteries also results in a more compact camera.
Both models feature a 4x Optical Zoom Canon Lens, with the PowerShot A3100 IS supporting this with a huge 12.1-megapixel sensor, and the A3000 IS with a 10-megapixel sensor, ensuring quality images, which can be viewed on a large 2.7-inch LCD screen.
The A3100 IS will be available from mid-February 2010 in silver, red, and blue, and the A3000 IS in a contrasting black and silver design.
Replacing the PowerShot A480, the A495 and A490 feature new smooth and curved designs and are designed for first-time users and families with children of all ages. The navigation buttons have been simplified and made more intuitive and the ergonomic designs make them easy to hold.
The inclusion of a 3.3x Optical Zoom Canon Lens and 10.0 megapixel CCD sensor on both models allows users to capture great high-quality shots and zoom in to their subject. The 2.5-inch LCD monitor makes it easy to shoot and view images. The models use AA batteries.
The PowerShot A495 IS will be available from mid-February 2010 in three different colours (silver, red and blue) and the A490 in a contrasting black and silver design.
Pricing has yet to be confirmed for all models.
