Pioneer Demo HTC Smartphone Wireless Music Streaming Over 30 Metres

Pioneer, who has been pushing Apple AirPlay of late, has now connected with HTC to demonstrate wireless music running from an Android OS to Pioneer speakers. At a recent event Pioneer Vice President of Home Electronics, Russ Johnston, demonstrated how a user using an HTC Connect smartphone can play music from their phone wirelessly over a network of Pioneer speakers. The result was described as being better than Bluetooth.

In his demonstration, Johnstone set up Pioneer A1, A3, and A4 speakers as seperate rooms for the purpose of the demonstration.

He showed that by using the HTC Connect over a wireless network uncompressed music could be played from up to 30 metres away — “both better capabilities than Bluetooth” he said.

HTC is also planning to add video streaming to HTC phones shortly.

The speakers used were designed by legendary audio engineer Andrew Jones, so that mono speakers could sound like stereo.

The A1 costs $299 and can connect to the home wireless network. The A3 adds a rechargeable battery and the ability to create a wireless network of its own for HTC Connect to work on the go, and is $399. The A4 is also $399 and includes 5 speakers and a subwoofer.
