From Click Frenzy To Kogan Frenzy: E-tailer’s U-Turn

E-tailer backtracks on Click Frenzy, and changed the name of sale to Kogan Frenzy, hours after it was slapped with a legal order.

The change to Kogan one day sale name was made sometime yesterday, it appears.
Kogan launched the 24 hour ‘Click Frenzy’ sale at 7am Tuesday, despite not being actually part of the mass retail event, organised by Grant Arnott, which went live 7 pm last night.

Visitors of Kogan.com.au will now be met by a Kogan Frenzy banner on the homepage but is still using Click Frenzy in the url and source code, which is an “inappropriate use of trademark”, says Arnott.

Click Frenzy lawyers issued a ‘cease and desist’ notice to Kogan in the last few days, requesting it to stop using the ‘Click Frenzy’ brand or trademark.
However, the etailer, operated by mouthy CEO Ruslan Kogan, refused to take notice of the legal order by Monday, although quickly changed the name to ‘Kogan Frenzy’ sometime yesterday.
When asked if Click Frenzy organisers will still be pursuing the case against Kogan, Arnott said “we are reserving our rights” and says the issue “is the hands of our legal team”.
Yesterday, Kogan hit out at the mass ecommerce event, which over 300 retailers are taking part in, saying “Click Frenzy’s attempt to own the concept of an Online Sales Day would be the same as Harvey Norman trying to own the concept of a Boxing Day Sale.
“These sales events should happen organically with retailers responding to consumers’ needs.”
Kogan took part in last year’s Click Frenzy event.
