Apple Music now has more than 10 million subscribers, the Financial Times has reported people familiar with the matter as stating.Apple Music launched in June last year, providing users an initial three-month membership, with focus subsequently falling on how many users were being converted to paid subscribers.
A month after its launch, it was reported that the service had 11 million trial members, with Eddy Cue, Apple senior vice president of internet software and services, telling USA Today that 2 million of those members had opted for the family pack.
Apple Music offers both a single membership and a family membership for up to six people.
In October last year, speaking at WSJDLive, The Wall Street Journal’s global technology conference, Apple CEO Tim Cook had stated that Apple Music had 15 million users, of which 6.5 million were paying subscribers.
The reported 10 million subscribers places Apple Music subscriber numbers at around half that of music streaming rival Spotify.
Spotify advised in June last year that it had reached more than 20 million subscribers and more than 75 million active users.
