Acer Cuts Mega Entertainment Brand Deal

Acer has cut a mega brand deal with PBL to become the sole sponsor of the worlds second largest entertaiment venue behind Madison Squuare Gardens.

Acer who have been burning up market share in the Australian market over the past few years much to the pain of big brands like HP and IBM as well as consumer technology brands like Sony and LG  have made a massive brand investment by cutting a five-year sponsorship agreement with PBL for naming rights to the Sydney SuperDome’s which will see it re-branded as Acer Arena.

The sponsorship is made possible with the support of Intel who will promote their Viiv technology. Billed as Australia’s number one indoor entertainment venue and number two worldwide, just behind Madison Square Garden, the entertainment centre will take on its new identity from 12 May 2006, spearheading Acer’s drive to become Australia’s number one consumer technology brand.

The sponsorship Acer claim will allow them, Intel and the SuperDome to deliver a new level of entertainment experience at Acer Arena, but plans are also in place to deliver hours of on-demand, Internet-delivered digital entertainment direct to people’s homes.Acer claim that they will use  the sponsorship as an important brand building opportunity for the Company.

harles Chung, managing director, Acer Oceanic Region said, “Digital technology supports our lifestyles in the home, at work and in the live performance arena. Through every Acer Arena experience, patrons can see the truly amazing and enjoyable experience that technology has to offer. Acer Arena reflects the innovation and excitement packed into every Acer product, from PC’s and notebooks to projectors and TV’s.

“Acer is already on track to being the number one PC vendor in 2007 and is proud to fuel this world-class entertainment venue, right here in Australia.”

Intel will use the Arena sponsorship to promote its newly released Viiv technology platform. Intel Viiv technology delivers the computing performance to support high-definition entertainment including the latest online content, DVDs, games and music, ushering in a new era of home entertainment.

“This sponsorship enables us to excite consumers about technology and entertainment – two areas that are intertwined,” said Kate Burleigh, national marketing manager ANZ, Intel. “We want patrons to touch and see the truly amazing experiences that Acer products based-on Intel Viiv technology can offer in a setting where they are looking to be entertained.”

World Class Acts

The Acer Arena is a world-class entertainment venue attracting world-class acts. As the number two worldwide entertainment venue, its focus is on retaining this position and achieving number one status through technology innovation.

David Humphreys, CEO of Sydney SuperDome said, “The Acer and Intel sponsorship enables us to deliver a greatly enhanced entertainment experience for patrons through better services, facilities and an increased profile for attracting the world’s most exciting headline acts.

“One of our plans through this sponsorship is to deliver live and pre-packaged entertainment from the Acer Arena directly to people’s homes, thereby delivering premium content to the consumer. This is a first for our industry and something that we are proud to be leading.”
