Acer Quietly Enters TV Biz

Acer Computer Australia has announced a new range of LCD TVs, the first step in a plan to become the number three TV vendor by 2009.

Already the third largest pc vendor, Acer Australia’s are extremely competitively priced with the smallest the AT2001, a 51cm TV priced at just $899 (RRP).

Another two models, the 66cm AL2671W is priced at  $1,599, while the 81cm AT3201W carries an RRP of just $2,199.

Acer Marketing Director, Raymond Vardanega said: “Flat screen TV’s – prestigious but once out of reach – are now eminently affordable.  With our new range of HD ready flatscreen TV’s, we are able to bring great value TV’s with great service to this expanding market”.

“Many replacement TV’s are part of new home systems which incorporate not just cinema or gaming, but digital internet/free-to-air content and services via the PC,” he said. “Acer’s success in the home PC market will help bring this experience to life for many more people than ever before.”

Vardanega said the company believed it can become the number three TV brand by 2009 due to the increasingly commoditised nature of the flat panel market. The company’s excellence in supply chain, speed and cost management will be key to its success he said.

Sophie Lo, Research Analyst at IDC said: “The LCD TV market is expected to experience stronger growth than the plasma market over the forecast period 2005-2009. This is because LCD is a newer TV technology and is also anticipated to experience more aggressive price declines.”

The 66cm and 81cm units are widescreen displays offering picture-in-picture and picture-by-picture options allowing viewers to simultaneously view two separate inputs. All include 3D audio enhancement technology solution SRS WOW.
