Adobe Finally Slashes Their Prices After Gouging For Years

One day after the federal parliamentary inquiry into IT “price gouging” issued Adobe Australia with a summons to appear before it and explain its pricing policies Adobe A/NZ has cuts the price of its Creative Cloud subscription service in Australia by 20 percent. (Apple and Microsoft have also been hit with summonses). The price of a monthly subscription to Adobe’s Creative Suite 6 services – which includes applications widely used in the publishing industry including PhotoShop page layout program InDesign and Web-page builder Dreamweaver – has been cut from A$62.99 to $49.99. This brings it into line with the American price of US49.99 (A$48.73) a month – indeed the – Under price is actually cheaper given that it includes GST while the US price is free of tax.

The company is denying its decision was brought about or affected by this week’s parliamentary summons.

“We are simply looking at expanding the audience for our cloud offerings – [the summons] was not at all a factor” said Adobe PR manager Suzy Brady.

Creative Cloud momentum is building in Australia and New Zealand according to Adobe’s press release announcing the cut. But the company is declining to reveal actual subscriber numbers.
