Competition in the media streaming market just ramped up another notch, with Bloomberg reporting that Amazon will stop selling media streaming devices from Google and Apple that are not easily compatible with its video serviceBloomberg has reported that Amazon sent an email to its marketplace sellers that it will stop selling Apple TV and Google Chromecast, as the devices don’t “interact well” with Prime Video, Amazon’s streaming video service.
Amazon sells competing devices in the form of its Fire TV range, however will continue to stock devices from other manufacturers. Other devices, such as from Roku, Microsoft’s Xbox and Sony’s PlayStation, which work with Amazon’s video service, will not be affected, Bloomberg reported.
“Over the last three years, Prime Video has become an important part of Prime” Bloomberg reported Amazon as stating in the email. “It’s important that the streaming media players we sell interact well with Prime Video in order to avoid customer confusion.”
However, the move could hurt Amazon as much as Google and Apple, with consumers wanting to purchase the Apple TV or Google Chromecast having to turn to other retailers in order to do so.
Both Google and Apple have recently unveiled next-gen versions of their media streaming devices, with competition heating up in the market ahead of the holiday season.
Bloomberg has reported Amazon as stating no new listings for the products will be allowed and posting of existing inventory will be removed on October 29.
