And if you have both you can transform any room in your house from the bedroom to a den by creating a unique mood effect when cuddled up on the couch that the experts say is calming and relaxing on the eye muscles.
You can also get an Ambilight+Hue app for Android and iOS that coordinates Hue bulbs with compatible TVs, spreading Ambilight effects across the entire room.
Shortly Philips and TPVision will launch their 60-inch Elevation TV in Australia. The 3D-capable, 1080p LCD introduces a four-sided Ambilight system that produces a fuller lighting effect when the set is wall-mounted.
It’s also the thinnest Philips TV to date, at 0.54 inches thick, and it includes the requisite smart TV features.

What is Ambilight?
Ambilight creates light effects around the television that correspond to the video content. Philips claims that a “more immersive viewing experience” can result.
Ambilight is a lighting system that actively adjusts both brightness and colour based upon picture content. Integrated into the television cabinet, Ambilight technology is aimed to enable the viewer to see more picture detail, contrast and colour while eliminating on-screen reflections.
Ambilight technology also works by projecting light from the rear of the TV cabinet in a very wide range of colours, shades and intensities.
Viewers can choose to have Ambilight follow the colour and brightness of the programme content – automatically changing with the colours on the screen – or alternatively the light levels and colour can be set to match the interior decor or mood in the room. When the television is not on, the unit becomes a lamp, capable of displaying dynamic light patterns.
Adults and children may be staring at screens for extended periods of time, both at home and on the road. When they focus on one thing for too long, the accommodating eye muscles get stressed and tired, thereby causing visual fatigue.
Philips Ambilight TV with the back light feature aims to help ease eye fatigue and strain.
