Android Still On Top In Smartphone Market

Android is still the operating system of choice in both Australia and the US, with new figures revealing that Apple iOS is struggling to grow, while Windows devices are on a steady decline.

Comscore research released in the US reveals that the Android OS is  leading the way, with 52.4 per cent of all US sales in May, up from 51.7 percent at the end of February.

The iOS share of the US market rose by only 0.3 per cent to 39.2 percent during same time period.

It’s also been revealed that despite the launch of new smartphones, including the new BlackBerry BB10 operating system and new Windows Phone 8 devices, their share fell to 4.8 and 3.0 per cent respectively.

At a brand level, Apple’s iPhone still dominates with 32.9 per cent market share, closely followed by Samsung, which witnessed a 1.7 per cent jump to 23 per cent of sales.

The next three, HTC, Motorola and LG all endured a fall in sales during the three-month period, all of which remain under 10 per cent.
