A Federal Judge has tossed out an Apple patent suit brought against Google-owned-Motorola.
One of the many, many court cases Apple is embroiled in is against Google-owned- Motorola. In a Federal Court in Wisconsin, Apple is contending the licensing fee they pay to use Motorola technology in its iPhone and iPod are too high. The fee is 2.25% and, worse yet, goes straight into the pockets of their rival, Motorola’s owner Google.
Things have just gotten worse for the prominent smartphone company as the Judge presiding over the court case has thrown it without providing a reason.
“We’re pleased that the court has dismissed Apple’s lawsuit with prejudice,” Motorola Mobility said in an emailed statement on Monday. “Motorola has long offered licensing to our extensive patent portfolio at a reasonable and non-discriminatory rate in line with industry standards. We remain interested in reaching an agreement with Apple.”
It might be out of court, but that won’t put an end to the legal woes. According to Wired, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has recommended Motorola Mobility be formally investigated to identify if its industry standard technology is being offered at a reasonable rate.
