Apple Hanging Out On Last Minute Reprive By Rapper Eminem

Apple could be in strife, with lawyers for the Company forced to negotiate with legal representatives for rap star Eminem, after millions of dollars worth of content was sold in their iTunes store with permission.

Last minute talks are taking place in an effort to avert a costly and potentially embarrassing court battle with the rap star who recently won a court case against Apple in a US court.

The court heard that that Apple had made as much as $2.5m from unauthorised sales of the rapper’s songs through iTunes.

If a deal is not reached by the end of today the case will go before a federal US court next week.

At the heart of the case are claims that Apple made available 93 Eminem tracks in their popular iTunes store that were not authorised for sale as digital downloads.

The publishing Company for the music Eight Mile Style, filed a lawsuit in 2005 alleging that Apple and record company Aftermath had infringed its copyright by agreeing a deal to sell the music online when they only had a right to sell CD sales.

Documents lodged in the US Court claim that Apple made $2.5m from selling Eminem’s music, with Aftermath collecting a further $4m that they are not entitled to.

Apple is expected to make an announcement later today.
