It was bound to end in tears. From the word go, this app promising to ‘cure’ homosexuality was always going to cause the tech co controversy and prompt an avalanche of criticism.
And it has. The application, available for free on iTunes, created by Exodus International, a religious Christian outfit based in Florida, US, has caused an outcry with 145,000 signatures to online petition demanding it be removed.
Apple gave the app a 4+ rating, indicating it does not contain unwarranted material. It has been available for download since February 15.
Exodus say it is “designed to be a useful resource for men, women, parents, students, and ministry leaders.”
The tech giant has not released an official statement on the removal of the app, although it is likely they will in the coming days.
Browsers who click on the app now are simply told ” Your request could not be completed.”
And its not the first time Steve Jobs’ company has made a content blunder like this. Last year it was forced to pull a previous app discouraging gay marriage.
