Did Apple place a $113M bid to buy German TV company Loewe?
AppleInsider claimed on Saturday Apple placed a $113 million bid to buy German TV company Loewe whose brand is distributed in Australia by Audio Products Australia. Their unnamed source claimed Loewe “has been advised by its financial advisor to accept the offer and a final decision is scheduled to be announced internally before 18 May 2012.”
However, Loewe has issued a statement (translated to English compliments of Google’s Translate) that claims the rumour is unfounded.
Ever since Jobs’ posthumous biography was released, the internet has been ablaze with speculation on an Apple TV, its hardware and content distribution method. His biographer, Walter Isaacson, recorded Jobs saying “I finally cracked it” with respect to a new model of television.
Loewe made its television debut in 1929 and now employs 1,000 workers in 50 countries. Its primary shareholders include Sharp (28.83%) and LaCie (11.17%).
