The new iPhone update released by Apple over the weekend is designed to provide a number of stability fixes, along with several security patches.

According to reports, among the problems fixed by the new iPhone 2.1 software update include the now-infamous dropped call issues as well as crashes, which could occur when the user has large numbers of applications installed on the handset.
On top of those issues, Apple has also improved the speed of text messaging and the search and loading of contacts on the iPhone.
Other new features include support for Apple’s new iTunes “Genius” playlist feature and improved battery life, the option to repeat text message alerts, as well as the ability to wipe all data on the handset if more than 10 consecutive failed password attempts are made.
The company has also posted a fix for the Windows Vista version of iTunes, which was causing the ‘blue screen of death’ to appear when an iPhone or iPod was plugged into a Vista-enabled PC.
