ASUS Carves Up PC Gaming Market

As retailers JB Hi Fi, Harvey Norman and Dick Smith get set to take on new PC gaming brands it is ASUS who is carving up the global PC gaming market.

At IFA both Lenovo and Acer pitched Australian retailers to stock their PC gaming offering after Lenovo revealed that PC gaming was a main focus for the Company during the next12 months.

According to DigiTimes research coming out of Taiwan Asustek Computer(ASUS) was the largest gaming notebook vendor in the first half of 2015 after they captured 40% of the shipments of gaming notebooks featuring Nvidia GeForce GTX 950M, 960M, 970M and 980M graphics cards, according to sources from the supply chain.

Following Asustek, Lenovo was the second largest with a shipment share of 30%, mainly relying on demand from China, the sources said. Micro-Star International (MSI) and Acer were number three and four, respectively, with their shipment shares ranging from 11to 15%, one of the largest markets for these brands is Europe where the average age of a gamer is 35 with women making up to 49% of the total market.

With demand for standard consumer notebooks continuing to drop, most notebook vendors have already turned to niche markets such gaming notebooks to maintain their sales.

It also emerged that the average selling price for a gaming PC is up to 25% more than a standard PC or gaming notebook.
