BenQ Rolls Out PC Inside An LCD

BenQ has launched a fully functional PC that sits inside a high definition widescreen LCD.

Called nScreen, this ‘net-top’ comes in an 18.5-inch (i91) and 21.5-inch model (i221). The nScreen consists of an LCD display, keyboard, and mouse. According to BenQ, users simply have to plug in the unit, switch it on, and navigate a simple installation process to get online.

The nScreen can be housed on a shelf rather than a dedicated desk and uses 80 percent less power than a traditional desktop computer.

A knob located on the bottom right of the LCD acts as a power and volume control for easy operation. BenQ has also included a handset (included with the i221 but optional for the i91) for VoIP calls, as well as a built-in 1.3-megapixel camera for video chats.

BenQ Australia’s General Manager, Chee Chung said, “the nScreen allows you to surf the net, check emails, view and share digital photography, video chat, watch movies and films, download music and play online games – the functions most utilised by families on the home PC.”

“In fact, BenQ has given special consideration to the marketing of this innovative new product, recognising that older Australians represent a prime market for the ‘net-top’ revolution.  As such, the nScreen is fitted with a virtual magnifier function making reading easier, while ‘senior mode’ lowers high audio frequencies making sound clearer,” she continued.

Both models of the new BenQ nScreen run on Microsoft’s Windows XP Home edition and come with built-in speakers, microphone, sound system, USB port, microphone in, headphone out, and a 4-in-1 memory card reader (MS, MS-Pro, SD, MMC).

The BenQ nScreen is available starting this month from selected Harvey Norman stores with an RRP of $899 for the i91 and $1199 for the i221.
