Big Nintendo Summit A Fizzer

Nintendo’s media summit at the company’s Melbourne HQ today was a disappointment, with none of the anticipated products making an appearance.

Nintendo told attendees that the company’s hands were tied, and it couldn’t show products to Australia before the US had seen them.

A larger DSi, the DSi XL with a 4.2-inch screen, was unveiled, along with a new black Wii and coloured controllers, all covered by SmartHouse earlier today. Capcom’s game Monster Hunter Tri bundled with a classic controller was announced, too, though no release date was given.
Speculation before the summit was rife, with Nintendo fans anticipating new game release announcements in the Metroid, Super Mario, Legend of Zelda and Pikmin franchises.
Attendees also hoped to see the Wii Vitality Sensor, a device that measures a gamer’s pulse while playing with the Wii.
Mark Serrels, editor of Official Nintendo Magazine, called the lack of a new Metroid game “an absolute jib” in his live Twitter feed of the event.
Serrels concluded the feed after those three announcements saying, “And that’s it folks. Sorry about that. Bit of a disappointment”.
