RIM are set to move into the the consumer market with a brand new version of it’s popular Blackberry. Research In Motion (RIM) are looking to capture mums on the move with the Blackberry Pearl which comes with both camera and music player.
Rival Palm last week launched its Treo 680 smartphone which also claims Blackberry-style e-mail, a music player, digital camera, camcorder and video
player. Unlike the Pearl, it has a full Qwerty keyboard for typing messages.
Both gadgets will be priced around $799 and – according to media releases will be marketed primarily via retail stores rather than carrier plans.
The Blackberry Pearl is named for its glowing pearl-like navigation button and trackball – centrally mounted rather than the right-side thumbwheel on
previous Blackberries, which has irritated left-handed users.
US market research firm Gartner has predicted that by 2016 all mobile phones will be shipped with Blackberry-style wireless e-mail
