A new speaker in the Beoplay range from Bang & Olfusen’s B&O Play brand has been introduced at CES 2017, featuring support for Chromecast, AirPlay, Spotify Connect and a standard Bluetooth connection.
The Beoplay M5 also supports Beolink Multiroom to connect with other speakers in the Beoplay range. B&O Play have put a heavy emphasis on design with a cover produced by Danish textile manufacture Kvadrat, which the company says is “made from woven wool and is carefully carefully designed to enhance acoustics.”
Three tweeters, a mid-range driver and a 5-inch downward firing sub woofer power the Beoplay M5. An aluminium disc on top of the speaker can be rotated to control the volume and can also be pressed down to pause or play music.
An early hands-on from The Verge indicates the speaker is bass-heavy, but not at the expense of mids and highs.
High quality design and extensive connectivity do come at a price: the new speaker will retail for $899 in Australia, significantly more than similar products on offer from companies like Denon and Sonos.
