Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Takes Out Competition

Hot-selling computer game Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 has broken sales records, earning more than US$400 million in its first 24 hours on the market, the makers claim.Activision Blizzard said it had the biggest launch of any game ever. The game’s success is seen as crucial to Activision, which has shifted its strategy toward releasing fewer, better-quality titles each year.

The Call of Duty franchise is estimated to make up one-third of Activision’s $4 billion annual revenue. But Activision is facing a threat from Battlefield 3, Electronic Arts’s latest shooter title, which sold 5 million copies within the first week of release.
