Canon Rolls Out New DSLR Lenses

Those who own a Canon DSLR camera will soon be able to take better and more stable photos, thanks to three new EF-range lenses, says Canon.

Canon has introduced two new lenses in the entry-level range – the EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS and the EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS – specifically designed for Canon’s APC-S sized sensors (EOS 40D and EOS 400D), as well as the EF14mm f/2.8L II USM, an ultra-wide angle lens designed to meet the demand for high image quality in the digital age.

Canon’s new EF lenses

EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS and EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS

Canon’s new EF-S18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS lens is a small and lightweight standard zoom lens with a newly-developed Image Stabilizer.  Offering an equivalent focal length of 29-88mm when used on an APS-C size sensor (EOS 400D and 40D), this new lens has been developed with an optimum lens shape and coating to suppress flaring and ghosting.

The EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS is a compact and lightweight lens offering an equivalent focal length of 88-400mm when used on an APS-C size sensor (EOS 400D and 40D). Complete with Image Stabilizer, the EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 has the optical performance of the current EF 55-200mm f/4.5-5.6 II USM or greater. Similar to the EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS lens, the EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS features an optimum lens shape and coating, suppressing flaring and ghosting.

Both lenses feature Canon’s Optical Image Stabilizer technology to correct the effects of hand-held shake. When used with an EOS 400D or EOS 40D, this newly-developed Optical Image Stabilizer can compensate for up to four stops, vastly enhancing the flexibility of the lens.

Due to variances in focal length, weight and size, different lenses require customised levels of image stabilization as they are affected by different quantities and frequency of vibration. Only Canon’s in-lens Optical Image Stabilizer technology can perfectly match these individual requirements to provide the correct amount of image stabilization.

Professional Ultra-wide Angle Range:  EF14mm f/2.8L II USM

The new EF14mm f/2.8L II USM is an ultra-wide angle lens, designed to meet the demand for high image quality in the digital age. Combined with a Canon’s full frame sensor D-SLR, the EF 14mm f/2.8L II USM delivers rectilinear, distortion-free photography at an incredible 114 degree angle of view.

The new EF 14mm f/2.8L II USM achieves the best optical performance in its class through the combination of two glass-moulded aspherical elements which correct distortion and improve image resolution (particularly edge resolution) and two Ultra-low Dispersion (UD) elements which suppress chromatic aberration.

The EF14mm f/2.8L II USM is designed with a circular aperture which produces more naturally beautiful background defocus. Other improvements include optimised lens coating to suppress ghosting and flare. Dust and water resistance has also been improved with increased seals on the lens mount, switch panel and focusing ring.

RRP:

EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS: $299
EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS: $399
EF14mm f/2.8L II USM: TBA
