Cheap LCD TV’s Branded B&O

Struggling Danish Hi Fi Company Bang & Olufsen has placed orders with a Taiwanese Company for hundreds of B&O branded LCD TV’s. The same Company manufactures cheap TV’s for Sharp and Sony.

If you are looking to buy a Bang & Olufsen TV the chances are that you will pay up to double the price of a TV from a vendor like Sony or Sharp. But what the struggling B&O don’t tell you is that the B&O branded LCD TV’s are made by Taiwanese based Company Amtran Technology who also make TV’s for other vendors who are looking to re brand cheap made in Taiwan LCD TV’s as their own.

Amtran Technology recently received LCD-TV orders from the Denmark-based Bang & Olufsen, with shipments set to kick off by the end of this quarter. The orders placed include 26, 27 and 32-inch LCD TV.
The Taiwan-based company, which used to focus on LCD-monitor manufacturing, started marketing its own Vizio-branded flat panel TVs (both LCD-TV and PDP-TV models) in the US in the second half of 2005.  In Australia the Vizio brand was taken off the market after Vizio Australia were unable to supply PAL LCD TV’s. They also failed to pay their marketing bills with the Company now set to be sued by their advertising agency Robot Blonde.
Amtran’s flat panel TV business is expected to account for nearly 76% of the company’s sales in 2006, up 40.8% from 2005, according to sources. The company expects to ship 1.2-1.4 million LCD monitors this year.
The company aims to double its flat panel TV shipments (OEM/ODM and OBM) to between 800,000 and 1 million units in 2006, Amtran projected in late 2005. In the first half of 2006, the company shipped about 270,000 LCD TVs and 70,000 PDP TVs, stated Amtran.
