Cisco Set To Take On Skype In Consumer Video Conference Market

Cisco Systems who are struggling to the Flip Camera market is set to move into the consumer video conferencing market up against Skype which can be enabled via a Panasonic or Samsung TV.

Cisco Systems who are struggling to the Flip Camera market is set to move into the consumer video conferencing market up against Skype which  can be enabled via a Panasonic or Samsung TV.
Skype said that it plans to unveil a new consumer product next week tipped  to be a cheaper, consumer version of its high-end TelePresence videoconference system.
At the 2010 CES show in LAS Vegas Cisco CEO John Chambers gave me a demonstration of the new device. In a video hook up with his wife he showed how easy it was to get a high quality video connection via a TV.
The announcement will be made on October 6, the networking giant said. A spokesman declined to give details except to say that the launch involved a major, new consumer product.
According to a Reuters report, Robert Lloyd, a senior executive at Cisco, told the newswire in May that the company expected to begin selling a consumer version of its TelePresence systems late this year. Likely cost would be about US$500.
