CONFIRMED: LG ‘G2’ TO Hit OZ…(Optus Only)

Update: LG Australia confirm G2 will hit Oz November but on Optus only.

LG Australia confirmed their latest hero – the ultra skinny 5.2″ G2 with quad-core processor, 13MP camera and HiFi sound will be arriving on Aussie shores –  on Optus plan or else $699 outright from “select retailers.”

G2 was announced in New York overnight.

An LG spokesperson told CN it will “most likely be on Optus until the end of year,” suggesting the Android phone may hit other carriers in 2014, but would not comment if LG are in discussions with other carriers, locally.
No side keys: LG Rear Key means volume control is now at the back.

The ultra thin G2, which has no side keys, will hit Optus in November as a post-paid handset.

The 4G smartphone will run on Optus’ dual 4G network technology – 4G TD and FD-LTE, which it says allows for faster data streaming.

“When the G2 hits Optus stores, scheduled for November, it will open the door to greater 4G capacity for data hungry Australians as the Optus TD-LTE network rolls out. Meaning more downloads, better browsing and faster streaming,” says Rohan Ganeson, Managing Director, Sales at Optus.
Optus 4G dual network is live in Canberra, and is being rolled out across metro areas over the coming year.
Jonathan Banks, Head of Mobile at LG Australia said: “we
are delighted to be partnering with Optus to launch the LG G2 in Australia as
it demonstrates our focus on delivering world class technology.”

But
don’t be expecting too many other LG devices supporting Optus dual 4G network this year.

“The
R&D investments made by LG means that  G2 will be one of only a very
small number of new handsets this year that support Optus’ 4G
LTE network strategy,” he said.
“Our commitment to allocating global R&D resources to a market like Australia is evidence of LG’s ongoing focus to build a strong local business in the premium end of the smartphone market. ”
