CONFIRMED: OZ Samsung S4 Faster 4G + Quad-Core

We’re one of the lucky ones: Aussie Galaxy S4 will be 4G with a super-fast quad core Snapdragon processor.
Samsung Australia today confirmed what we had all been wondering for weeks  that the faster 4G version of Galaxy S 4 will be heading down under – ahead of the launch of the 5 inch Full HD AMOLED “life companion” smartphone at the Opera House next week.

Although no word when it will go on sale yet. All Samsung said was “from Q2” but all the telcos including Telstra, Optus, Vodafone and even Kogan will be stocking the new smartie.

Samsung made two versions of the Galaxy S4 which was first unveiled in US last month – a 4G model with a quad core 1.9 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon Series 600 processor (to be sold in the US) and another with Samsung’s own eight-core Exynos chip running on 3G networks.

“Samsung Australia is today confirming that the Samsung GALAXY S 4 will be available in Australia with the Quad-core 1.9 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon Series 600 processor and 4G LTE compatibility,” it said in a statement.

“Globally, the majority of Galaxy S4 LTE versions will come with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon while 3G versions will be equipped with Samsung Exynos.”

Since Telstra, Optus both have 4G networks up and running with Voda to follow in June, confirmed today, it makes sense to have 4G version sold here, an important global market for Samsung.

Samsung’s 5 inch S4, has been kitted out with a Full HD Screen, 13 MP camera and a slew of new software like S-Health, eye scroll and hover feature.

According to a recent teardown by HIS isuppli, the processor is one of the priciest bits of the new Galaxy – costing $20 for the Exynos and $30 for the Snapdragon, along with with High Def AMOLED screen and flash memory.

“Among the upgrades are a larger, full high-definition (HD) display; a beefed-up Samsung processor; and a wealth of new sensors that set a record high for the number of such devices in a smartphone design,” IHS said last month.

It costs 15% or US$30.40 more to make than its predecessor Galaxy S III due to the upgrades.

Initial reviews of the S4 have been shining, so we’re looking forward to getting up close and personal with Samsung’s Next Big Thing, next week.
