Consumers Forced To Wait For Hitachi Slim TV

Hitachi Australia has been forced to wait till late in 2008 before it can roll out its company’s new 35mm thick slim-line LCD TV. This is despite the fact that the TV goes on sale in Japan in December 2007.

In recent forecasts from Hitachi, the company said its flat panel business was still bleeding losses with the company expected to announce further losses when it reports to the Tokyo stock exchange on October 31 2007. Some analysts are forecasting that if the losses continue Hitachi will get out of the flat panel business altogether.

In a statement released yesterday Geoff Hannaford General Manager Sales and Marketing at Hitachi Australia said “Although our date is not defined for the launch in Australia, we believe it will be late 2008,”

The screen which comes with no TV tuner is expected to be expensive and buyers will be forced to also purchase a separate HD DVD Tuner.

Hitachi says that it will also sell an optional accessory allowing wireless connection to a media box to reduce cable clutter and allow placement of the panel away from AV components.
