Duracell is set to launch an ultra-thin recharging mat that charges smartphones and devices.The device which will be revealed tonight at the World Mobile Congress in Barcelona and is set to be launched in Australia by early 2013.
Duracell’s President Stassi Anastassov says the main stumbling block to extending battery life is size.There is too little space for the battery in smartphones, he says. “Consumers wants slim phones and the consumer is king.”
The main reason tablets have a longer working life is that there is enough space for a powerful battery, he explains.

According to the Wall Street Journal Duracell recently joined forces with U.S.-Israeli company Powermat to produce an ultra-thin recharging mat. It appears Powermat, who have struggled in Australia to sell their existing Powermat device, will benefit from the Duracell association with batteries and their distribution.
Duracell said that they plan to faciltate the mats into public places as well as cars, homes and offices with special surfaces, allowing mobile phones to charge wirelessly by simply placing them on the wired mat.
