E!, MTV, BBC: Optus Turns Up FetchTV

Optus retunes Fetch TV, adding 18 new entertainment channels.
Optus has rechristened its ‘Fetch Me TV’ service to ‘TV with Fetch’ and has added a new entertainment channel pack, costing $9.95 to boot.

The 18 new channels to its TV line up include E! Entertainment, 3 X MTV channels, Fox Sports News, and for news junkies there’s Bloomberg, CNBC and BBC World News.

Discovery Home & Health, a travel channel, and Baby TV is also in the mix and there is also TV on demand from Red Bull, Gekko TV, and iConcerts.

It costs from $9.95 a month (one of the cheapest packs available), in addition to the basic service which start at $9.95 for the personal video recorder (PVR) box, with free to air channels, 30 free movies a month (or one a day).

The Internet TV service is unmetered but you have to have an Optus fixed broadband or postpaid mobile account to get the service and there’s a one month contract requirement.

Optus TV already has foreign language and Setanta Sports packages costsing $14.95 and upwards.

The telco would not divulge Fetch TV customer numbers when contacted by SmartHouse today, but this new addition seems to be another push in the ever competitive IPTV market with rivals iiNet, Internode and Adam Internet all selling a similar Fetch TV service, as well as Telstra’s T-Box offering Internet TV.

Less than one third of Aussie are subscribed to pay TV services and Optus VP of TV and Video, Tim Carmichael, says “Optus TV with Fetch continues to give Australians a compelling low cost alternative.”

Subscribers to the new Optus $110 or $140 Home Phone and Broadband bundles can elect to include the Optus TV with Fetch service on the Connect package for no additional cost.
