Edifier & Microsoft Win As Logitech Exit Harvey Norman

The exit of Logitech from Harvey Norman stores has led to the expansion of Microsoft keyboard and mice accessories, and a move to Edifier and Sony PC attach speakers a senior executive of Harvey Norman has told ChannelNews.During the past month several vendors have lined up to present their offering to Harvey Norman after the mass retailer had a falling out with Logitech, a long time supplier to Harvey Norman who is struggling to hold onto market share in the highly competitive home PC and IT market.

Under pressure from JB Hi Fi, OfficeWorks and Dick Smith Harvey Norman had considered bring on other brands to replace the highly popular Logitech keyboard and mice range.

“We were already selling the Microsoft range of PC accessories so it made sense to expand the range as it is very popular with consumers. The Edifier PC attach sound gear was a logical choice. It is high quality and affordably priced. We are also expanding our range of Sony attach speakers” a senior executive who is on one of the Harvey Norman PC committees said.

The executive said that one of the other brands that will be sold by the mass retailer will be the Altec Lansing offering which is now distributed by Crest who picked up the business after the US Company dropped Amber Technology.

Edifier, who has seen their brand grow in Australia during the past 18 months, already supplies Apple shops with their PC attach speaker range they are also a major supplier to several other stores after they dropped Ingram Micro as their distributor in Australia in favour of Melbourne based Synnex.
