After 23 years of loyal service, the President of the Windows Division at Microsoft, Stephen Sinofsky, is leaving effective immediately.
Sinofsky’s abrupt departure takes place just 3 weeks after Windows 8 was released; the most radical revision of Windows in 17 years.

Microsoft’s claims the departure was mutual seems doubtful. During his 23 year career at Microsoft, Sinofsky championed Microsoft Office and helped turn the ailing Windows Vista into an operating system that pleased the masses. Windows 8 would’ve been Sinofsky’s most challenging project yet and it is possible the demanding project could’ve strained his relationship with Microsoft’s CEO, Steve Ballmer.
According to CNet, the two Microsoft executives were ‘warring’. The fact Sinofsky’s term at Microsoft ended ‘effective immediately’ makes a fallout between the two seem credible.
In a statement, Sinofsky expressed great sincerity and humility.
“It is impossible to count the blessings I have received over my years at Microsoft. I am humbled by the professionalism and generosity of everyone I have had the good fortune to work with at this awesome company.”
Ballmer also released a comment; however, his was curt.
“I am grateful for the many years of work that Steven has contributed to the company.”
