Ex BMW Designer Bangle, Set To Mangle Samsung Brand

He was credited with building the “ugliest” BMW cars ever built before he was dumped. Now Samsung is looking to use Chris Bangle, Chief Designer at BMW for most of the ’90s to design a new range of Smartphones and notebooks.

Instead of building cars that were “evolutionary which was why BMW had been so successful in the past, Bangle tried to stamp his own design ethos on the brand resulting in drivers dumping the brand in droves for an Audi.

Last week in Australia, Audi overtook BMW in the luxury car market with some blaming the aftermath of Bangle for the exit of traditional BMW customers.

According to some Bangle tried to deliver a futuristic, DE constructivist design that didn’t appeal to the traditional BMW or potential new customers.

According to Korean paper JoongAng Ilbo, Bangle will be working on mobile phone design and netbooks, which Engadget is tipping, could lead to “dramatic flame surfacing along with Dame Edna indicator lights and oddly bulging posteriors”.

Bangle has reportedly been hired to oversee the design of several projects at Samsung, though he won’t be an exclusive designer for the South Korean firm but rather a consultant.
Samsung has been reported previously to be looking to improve the design of its consumer electronic goods, mostly to make them look more luxurious. The firm is also believed to be establishing a new design studio in Europe for Bangle, complete with 10 researchers positioned under him.
