EXCLUSIVE:Another Sound Retail Group Hits The Wall

DJ Warehouse Australia’s leading supplier of DJ gear, Music Production, PA Equipment, Music Production and DJ training and equipment hire has been placed into administration.

The Company that sells JBL. Pioneer, QSC, Technics, Shore portable audio and DJ gear is believed to be still operating their hire business which rents gear to the likes of Myer, Westfield and several Universities across Australia.

DJ Warehouse claim that they were the biggest sound and party gear hire business, they also had comprehensive show room floors in Leichhardt, in Sydney and Abbotsford in Melbourne.

The Company that has been run for the past 13 years by George Alexis, wrote to vendors yesterday advising that the Company was set to cease trading however sources have told ChannelNews that DJ Warehouse is looking to continue with their hire business despite the hire operation being seen as an asset that could be sold to pay out the debts of the retail operation.

Last year another sound rental Company fell victim to the downturn in spending with the Australian Music Group Holdings, owner of the 30-store Allans Billy Hyde chain being placed into voluntary administration. No buyer for the group who also rented sound gear to commercial organisations could be found.

Shortly afterwards JB Hi Fi Commercial announced that they were moving into the musical Instrument market, with the addition of a team of MI education specialists to service the education market in Australia.

Tony Moore, Matt Sutherland and Myke Ireland, all formerly with the Allans Billy Hyde retail chain,  joined JB Hi-Fi and now lead a national team within JB Hi-Fi’s Commercial Division.

JB Hi Fi have not said whether they are interested in the DJ Warehouse business.

At the time Accounts filed with the Australian Securities and Investments Commission showed that the Allans had breached a $40 million debt covenant.
