Expensive Cisco Tablet To Go On Sale In OZ

Cisco, who last month was bailing out of the camera market after killing off their Flip Camera operation is now set to take a stab at the tablet market. The Android Cisco tablet device called Cius is set to be sold via solution providers and will cost between $700 and $1000. The device, which comes with its own application offering has a base station, but at this stage is Wi Fi only; it will go on sale at the end of July.

Cisco is pitching the Cius, pictured, to business users as a secure and controlled application environment as well as for its voice, video, collaboration, and virtualisation capabilities.

Cisco plans mainly to sell the Cius in Australia as part of bundled enterprise IP telephony systems to customers in the public sector, communications and business, according to Australian IT.

The company, who likes to put a premium on all the products that they sell, has not said whether they will prevent voice, video, collaboration, and virtualisation capabilities being delivered from a Cisco source, to other Android tablets which are priced up to $500 cheaper than the Cisco tablet.
