Fancy a tablet for $149?

Cheap retailer Kogan is selling a punchy 7 inch tablet without the typical price tag, starting from $149.

Forget about tablets competing in that price range because most smartphones are in excess of $149.

To be fair the $149 price tag is dependent on Kogan’s LivePrice system. Since the tablet is in production it is offered to consumers at a lower price point. The price incrementally rises one cent at a time until it reaches its sales price. At the time this article was penned, the price was $149.18 with the Agora 8 inch tab to be capped at $229.

The Agora tablet is powered by a 1GC Cortex A8 processor, a 200Mhz GPU and has 512MB of RAM. It’s 4GBs of internal storage can be expanded through a microSD card with up to 32GB of memory.

Google’s Android Gingerbread graces this tab, giving access to its application market and easily synchronising with Google’s vast portfolio of online services, including Gmail and YouTube.

Screen-wise it has an 8 inch SVGA capacitive touchscreen with a resolution of 800 x 600 pixels. There’s Wi-Fi, a front facing 2MP camera and a 3600mAh battery.

“The Kogan Agora 7inch tablet we launched earlier in the year was a roaring success, selling out multiple production runs within days. But we have had a lot of constructive feedback over the past few months in the Kogan community that have resulted in direct changes to the new range,” said Kogan founder Ruslan Kogan.

“As a result, we know we’re creating a device that will be loved by anyone wanting to own their own tablet without feeling guilty for forking out an arm and a leg.”

The Agora 7 inch will be shipped out to buyers in November 2011.
