First It Was Consumers, Now Microsoft Give Nokia The Flick

It is not only consumers who are giving Nokia the flick: it now appears that Microsoft has turned their back on the struggling Finish phone Company who earlier this month tried to “con” journalists with fake video and still pictures that were supposed to have been shot with its new Windows 8 Lumia 920.The big winner appears to be Taiwanese Company HTC after Microsoft chose to use its new HTC Windows 8S and Windows 8X as the flagship smartphones for the launch of their new Windows 8 mobile platform.

HTC’s Director of Product Management Graham Wheeler, told European media yesterday “the HTC 8X is the signature device of Windows Phone 8.”

Things started to go wrong for Nokia after the Company released a video at a global press event on September 5, supposedly demonstrating the phone’s Optical Image Stabilisation functionality, which they claimed allowed for clearer videos and pictures of moving objects.

The same day, The Verge noticed a peculiar reflection in the video: a white van with a camera man and a lighting rig.

Nokia then admitted that they hadn’t used the Lumia’s OIS technology to film the video or take some of the photos that had been handed out to journalists.

The Windows Phone 8X and 8S by HTC were launched today during a press conference in New York, (separate story coming).
