Even Don Draper uses Meebo.

And Meebo’s services get plenty eyeballs, and reaches approx half of the U.S. web population, according to its website.

It is not known how much Google paid for the web start-up headquartered in Mountain View, California, and offices in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Atlanta, Chicago, and New York.

The purchase should help Google push its social networking credentials, since its ‘Google +’ service has failed to gain the millions of friends it had originally hoped for.

“We are always looking for better ways to help users share content and connect with others across the Web, just as they do in real life,” Google said in a statement, reports WSJ.

Meebo said it was “happy” with the deal and “together with Google, we’re super jazzed to roll up our sleeves and get cracking on even bigger and better ways to help users and website owners alike.”
