Full HD Goes Mobile In New HTC Flagship

HTC has unveiled the first smartphone in production to have a Full HD screen, the HTC J Butterfly. If your jaw isn’t resting on the ground yet, it will once you read the rest of the specs.

But before we start talking about the processor or the RAM, we’ll do the screen justice. It’s a 5 inch Super LCD3 screen with a 1,920 by 1080 resolution, equipping it with an extraordinary 440 pixels per inch.

To give this milestone some perspective, the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Note II has a larger, tablet-esque 5.5 inch screen which dons a 1280 by 720 resolution and 267 pixels per inch.

The innards of the J Butterfly are just as impressive. According to GSMArena, it features a 1.5GHz quadcore Snapdragon S4 processor, a whopping 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal memory. It also has an 8MP rear camera capable of Full HD recording and a front facing 2MP camera.

Even though the J Butterfly has a larger screen, more powerful processor and more RAM, it is only marginally bigger than the One X, measuring 134.4 x 69.9 x 8.9 mm and weighing just 10 more grams at 140g.

It also carries NFC technology, a 4G LTE modem and is dust and waterproof (IPX5).

Unfortunately, it’s not all sunshine and rainbows. Even with the bigger, higher-res screen, the J Butterfly has a 2,020mAh battery. In comparison, Samsung’s Galaxy note has a 3,100mAh battery.

Another downer is its exclusivity as this model will only be available in Japan. One the plus side, the J Butterfly has set a Full HD standard, imbuing HTC with confidence and spurring on its rivals.

You never know, perhaps Australia might get a HTC K Butterfly sometime.
