Galaxy S6 rumours continue to emerge ahead of next year’s release of the next instalment in Samsung’s flagship smartphone series.If Samsung operates true to past form, the S6 will be unveiled around February 2015, and then launch around April, which would mean it is only a matter of months now before the S6 makes its debut.
The S5 was released in April this year and its predecessor, the S4, in April 2013, providing some sort of an indication as to a likely timeline to launch for the S6.
Meanwhile, rumours persist that Samsung is looking at a metal casing for the S6, departing from the polycarbonate rear employed by its predecessors.
As reported by TechRadar, sources in Samsung’s supply chain have indicated the Galaxy Alpha and Note 4, which both feature metal frames, could be something of a test for Samsung’s metal design ahead of an all-metal S6.
It has also been speculated that the S6 could feature a curved display.
SamMobile had previously reported that, not only will the S6 carry the name of the Galaxy S6, but it could also feature a curved display variant, the Galaxy S6 Edge, similar to the Note Edge.
SamMobile has since reported it has received updated information that this, in fact, may not be the case, however further reported that sources have indicated there is still an S6 variant in the works.
So, what sort of power will the S6 be packing?
Trusted Reviews has previously speculated the S6 will be powered by a 64-bit, six-core Snapdragon 808 processor, due to hit the market in the first half of 2015, which will support display resolutions of up to 2560 x 1600 pixels, in line with claims of a WQHD screen.
TechRadar also notes a Snapdragon chip of some variety is likely, with the Snapdragon 808 and 810 both candidates.
As far as screen display size goes, Samsung may well go with the market trend and opt for a larger display than the S5, which measures in at 5.1″ .
The iPhone 6 Plus measures in at 5.5″, and it would not surprise to see Samsung again up the display size of its flagship smartphone.
In terms of cameras, the S5 sports a 16 MP main camera, and it is likely Samsung will go for bigger and better for the S6.
Rumours have been circulating that Samsung will opt for a camera ranging between 16 and 20 MP.
With regard to operating systems, the latest version of Android, Android Lollipop, which has recently hit the market, would appear the likely option for the S6.
