Google And Ford Could Announce Partnership At CES 2016

Google and Ford will reportedly team up to build self-driving cars, with Yahoo Autos reporting that the partnership is set to be announced at CES 2016.Yahoo Autos has reported three sources familiar with the plans as stating the partnership will be announced by Ford at CES.

Ford recently announced that it will begin autonomous vehicle testing on California roads, having secured a driving permit to begin testing its Ford Fusion Hybrid on public roads next year, further advancing its 10-year autonomous vehicle development program.

The Ford Smart Mobility plan is designed “to take the company to the next level in connectivity, mobility, autonomous vehicles, the customer experience, and data and analytics”, with the Ford Research and Innovation Center Palo Alto having opened in January.

“Our Palo Alto team has grown significantly this year, using research and innovation to explore and develop future mobility solutions,” Mark Fields, Ford president and CEO, commented upon announcement of the vehicle testing.

“We’re attracting top talent from around the world to join our team in Silicon Valley, including employees from local technology companies and universities who want to make people’s lives better by changing the way the world moves.”

Google, meanwhile, is running its Google Self-Driving Car Project, building a prototype vehicle, having self-driven over 1 million miles since starting on the project back in 2009.

Yahoo Autos has reported that the deal between Google and Ford is understood to be non-exclusive, with Google having been talking to a number of other auto-makers about using its self-driving systems.
