HTC’s Google Android phone which is due in Australia early in the New Year is proving a blockbuster overseas with the device set to significantly hurt sales of Windows Mobile devices.
HTC say that they expect sales of more than one million G1 phones this year and millions in 2009 however the Company has a long way to go to catch up ith sales of the Apple 3G iPhone which sold 1 million units in 3 days.
The G1 has put HTC at the front of the pack when it comes to Android-based devices.Though competitors such as Samsung and Motorola are also betting big on Android, HTC has clearly taken the lead on the platform.
The company is likely to release its second Android-based handset in the first quarter of next year and is working on its third one.
The HTC executive has also admitted that the new Google offering is hurting sales of Windows Mobile devices of which HTC are the biggest maker in the world.
