After an unexpectedly long delay, Google has launched its e-Bookstore in Australia. It’s the fourth territory to gain the online store after the original model was launched in the US late last year, followed in more recent times by the UK and Canada.

Electronic titles will be available wirelessly not only from the Google e-Bookstore but also via two Australian bookselling chains, Dymocks and Booktopia.

Google claims hundreds of thousands of titles are already available for purchase, along with “millions” of free titles.

Titles are in either PDF or ePub formats, and can be read on Apple and Android mobile devices using a Google Books app, Google says, or on a range of e-book readers including Kobo and Sony – but not Amazon’s Kindle.
