Recently Google and Mozilla renewed a deal that will have Google as the default search engine in its rivals browser. What has not been revealed until now is the price Google paid, which is almost 3 times what they spent only a year ago.
AllThingsD has revealed Google forked out $300 million to be the default search engine in Mozilla’s Firefox. In comparison, the deal struck between the two companies set in 2010 saw Google pay $103 million.
The steep increase compared to their previous agreement has been the result of strong competition from Yahoo and Microsoft’s Bing. The latter of the two was Google’s main rival, with their Internet Explorer browser still dominating the global market with a 52% stake according to research accrued by Net Applications. However, despite this lead Google’s Chrome browser is making ground.
