Google Reportedly Developing YouTube Connect Live-Streaming App

Google has been developing a live-streaming app called YouTube Connect, which will be available for both Android and iOS devices, according to a report from VentureBeat. The service would see Google taking on the likes of Periscope and Facebook Live in the increasingly competitive live-streaming market.

YouTube Connect features much of the same functionality as found in Periscope and Facebook Live, according to a source close to the matter, VentureBeat reported.

VentureBeat reported that users will be able to log in via a Google or YouTube account for immediate smartphone streaming, with there being chat and tagging features, along with a news feed.

Videos will be accessible live within the app and also in their respective channels on the YouTube site, with previous broadcasts to also be storable in the app, VentureBeat reported, with the app not yet having integration with Facebook or Twitter.

Earlier in the year, Facebook embarked on the expansion of its live-streaming service, bringing it to countries around the world.

Twitter-owned Periscope has, meanwhile, also been further developing its service, having this year teamed up with GoPro in allowing users to live-stream from GoPro Hero4 Black or Silver cameras.

As for when YouTube Connect could be released, VentureBeat has reported that there is as yet no firm date.
