Google+ Unfriended By Major Gaming Developers

Google’s foray into social networking hasn’t been an easy one. After all, they’re competing against Facebook who, with 901 million users worldwide, are almost a monopoly. Now, major gaming developers are pulling support, making the hill a little steeper.Part of Google+’s appeal was its take on social gaming following the launch of its game page in August, 2011. They lured some heavyweight game developers, including EA Games and Wooga. But now these two developers are pulling their titles following, presumably, poor performance.

Wooga plans on pulling Bubble Island and Diamond Dash, and has already yanked Monster World from the not-so-social network. When TechRadar asked them why, Wooga’s spokesperson wasn’t diplomatic.

“We decided to remove certain games from Google+ because we have a much larger following on Facebook and they are active users.”

EA owned PopCap were a little more delicate in explaining why Bejewelled Blitz will be removed from Google+.

“PopCap has decided to suspend Bejeweled Blitz on Google+ to redeploy our resources to other adaptations of Bejeweled.

“Certainly, Google is a valuable gaming partner for PopCap and EA, and we’ll continue to develop for Google platforms.”

Google+ still hosts over 40 gaming titles but with Facebook boasting devout users, odds are people will turn to The Social Network for social gaming. Go figure.
