Is March 9 the launch date for Apple’s long anticipated iWatch? Perhaps, as the iPhone maker has sent out invitations to an “event” on that date in San Francisco, without specifying the product to be announced.
The rumours are flying thick and fast. Yes, it’s the iWatch; no it’s just another new Mac model .
Last month CEO Tim Cook said the smartwatch, the first new gadget line to debut since he took over the helm of Apple, will ship in April.
The device is expected to set American users back US$349 for the basic version. It has a rectangular touchscreen face, includes sensors to detect pulse rates and other health-related features and must be paired with an iPhone to work. It will come in two sizes and three styles – classic, sports and gold.
Analyst Morgan Stanley projects the watch will generate around US$8.1 billion in revenue in financial 2015, including $1.35 billion in the March quarter.
