HP PC may go into meltdown, literallyNew Chromebook recalled over fears the Charger “may overheat or melt”, and has a potential fire risk, ACCC warned in a product recall notice.
Google has issued a formal recall for the power charger of the new HP Chromebook 11 computer in Australia (model no. MU15-N1052-A00S, Branding: LEI F4). Only two of the affected PCs were sold in OZ.
“The risk has potential dermal injury and damage to materials from contact with an overheated charger”, according to the
recall notice. “Consumers should stop using the HP Chromebook 11 Charger.
“Google will directly contact consumers who purchased a HP Chromebook 11 computer to arrange a free replacement power charger. Consumers can use other micro-USB chargers to charge their HP Chromebook 11 computer in the meantime.”
There may also be a potential fire risk, although no fire has been reported, according to the ACCC notice.
The Chromebook went on sale in September. The affected product was sold in New South Wales only at JB Hi-Fi.
“This recall is part of a bigger global campaign and it was caught very early here, only 2 units had been sold,” an ACCC spokesperson told Smarthouse.
The ACCC were not aware of how many consumers are affected by the recall, when contacted by CN.
