HTC Celebrate Vive Anniversary With Discount

HTC have announced that they’ll be celebrating the one year anniversary of their HTC Vive going on sale with the launch of a new subscription service for the company’s virtual reality platform and a discount on the headset itself. To celebrate ‘VIVE Day’ on April 5, all VIVE owners are eligible to receive a free copy of VR action game Arcade Saga.

Meanwhile, those who have yet to drop the money on a brand new VIVE will receive $100 off the asking price when they buy online.

HTC Australia says that customers will need to check with local
retailers such as JB Hi-Fi and Harvey Norman, to confirm that they can
access a similar offer for HTC Vive retail purchases.

The cherry on top here is the new subscription tier for HTC’s VivePort content portal. The HTC-run content portal was first created for Chinese audiences but launched globally in September.

According to HTC, “the service gives Vive owners a new way to
navigate the burgeoning VR app marketplace and continually discover new
content for a low monthly fee.”

It’ll launch with a one month free trial offer for all new users.
Once the trial period expires, a Viveport Subscription will run you
$6.99 a month.

However, it’s not a straight Netflix-style system. Customers are
entitled to access five apps on the VivePort store and can swap out
their choices each month.

“We’re surprised every day by what our fans and developers have
brought to VIVE in its first year,” said HTC’s General Manager for Vive
Daniel O’ Brien.

“We’re astounded by the impact that VR is making in the home and in
the enterprise, and we want to celebrate Vive’s first birthday by giving
a bit back to our fans and by introducing Vive to more people,” he
says.
