HTC Launches Hero And Tattoo Phone

HTC has rolled out two new Google Android smartphones that claim to put users in the centre. The HTC Tattoo and Hero incorporate the company’s Sense philosophy and technology – make it mine, stay close, and discover the unexpected.

In a press conference conducted by the company yesterday, HTC’s Marketing Director for ANZ, Anthony Petts said that the two new handsets focus on personalisation and accessibility.

“The phones are equipped to directly reflect the user’s mood, aesthetic and natural communication patterns. They are the manifestation of HTC’s research and observations of human communication interactions and needs, joining a family of HTC phones designed specifically around user specifications,” says Petts.

The HTC Hero sports a 3.2-inch HVGA screen with an anti-fingerprint layer to minimise smudges, comes with a 3.5mm stereo headset jack, a 5-megapixel camera, and a microSD card slot to expand the unit’s memory. Since the company wanted to create a phone that ‘perfectly fits your life,’ the Hero comes with 7 panels that can be customised. For example, a user can put Facebook, Twitter, Outlook, Photos, Music Player, and Weather on the panels, with a user gaining access to it with a slide of a finger. The unit also comes with GPS, digital compass, gravity-sensor, and Wi-Fi built-in.

HTC has also launched the Tattoo, a small and compact phone that can be customised. The unit has the same functions as the Hero but comes with customisable covers that can be purchased online.

For $29.90, you can design and purchase your own unique cover, or search and select from popular cover designs from Garskin.  More details can be found at the Garskin website

Tattoo integrates Google’s innovative mobile services including: Google Maps, search, Google Mail, and Android market where users can download thousands of popular applications and games. It also comes complete with a broad variety of hardware features including a 3.2 megapixel autofocus camera, 3.5mm stereo headset jack and expandable microSD memory.

Harvey Norman will sell the two phones as soon as it is launched for $799 (HTC Hero) and $599 (HTC Tattoo).
